Lesson 3 – Image of God

Objectives:
-Understand we are created in the image of God
-Apply this to our lives in respect to commandments, covenants, and lifestyle
-How this knowledge can bless our lives

Activity:
Inflate a balloon and draw a smiley face on it. Give each family member several strips of masking tape. Instruct each member to write something they don’t like about their physical appearance/body on each strip of tape. Have them stick the negative strips of tape onto the balloon. The weight of many pieces of tape will weigh the balloon down and it will sink lower in the air. As the tape is removed, the balloon will soar high and proud again.
As with the balloon, we are brought down when we dwell on the negative aspects of ourselves. We are made in the image of God. He gave us the specific features and abilities we have for a reason. When we make fun of this in ourselves or others, we are making fun of both His image and His creation. When we can overcome those obstacles and ‘remove the tape,’ we will be able to reach our full potential.
